Chris Smirnov is a violinist currently studying Music Education at Temple’s Boyer College of Music and Dance who teaches violin, viola, and beginner drums. Other than classical violin, Chris functions in many other styles, including hip-hop, jazz, funk, indie, and rock.
He has had experience playing in many ensembles, including various orchestras, chamber groups, pit orchestras, small jazz combos, and bands of various styles. He is currently studying classical violin with Aisha Dossumova, and jazz violin with John Blake Jr. He has been teaching privately since he was 16 years old, and believes that a teacher’s main responsibility isn’t to teach out of a textbook, but to enable learning and encourage critical thinking.
